The Ohio State football team was led by its defense in 2025. Statistically, they had the best defense in the country. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to help them win the Big Ten Championship or the Cotton Bowl. Offensively, they struggled against both the Hoosiers and Hurricanes.
Arvell Reese is one of the great players on Ohio State's defense. His production fell off at the end of the year, but his raw skills and athleticism are what endear him to NFL scouts and GMs. He is slated to be one of the top picks in the 2026 NFL Draft in a couple of months.
The New York Jets have the second pick in the draft. They are once again picking at the top after another poor season in 2025. Reese was asked about possibly being drafted by the Jets, and his comments might anger New York fans.
Ohio State star Arvell Reese might talk his way out of being drafted by the Jets
When asked about the Jets, Reese made some strange comments about New York.
"For some reason, I always struggle to play good in New York. It's weird. I definitely would not blame the Jets for passing up on me."
Reese didn't play in New York at any point in his time with the Ohio State Buckeyes. The closest he came was playing in Piscataway against Rutgers. It sounds like he is trying to find a way out of New York without coming out and saying that. Perhaps he believes he can succeed better elsewhere.
The Jets need to find a new starting quarterback. Justin Fields was benched in the middle of the year and clearly isn't the answer. New York might be better off trying to find a new QB, but Fernando Mendoza is likely going to be drafted by the Raiders with the first pick.
Reese is likely going to be a top-five pick. It's not clear where he ends up yet, but it doesn't sound like he wants to end up in New York.
