With the NFL Draft sitting a couple of months away, the NFL Combine has started. Several Ohio State football players are in Indy doing various levels of workouts for teams. They are projected to have at least four players go in the first round, although they could have more.
Arvell Reese is expected to be one of those players. Reese showed off his versatility in his only year as a starter with the Buckeyes. He was one of the fastest players on the defense. While his production slowed at the end of the year, his talent and raw athleticism are extremely intriguing to NFL GMs.
Reese started off his Combine experience by doing some interviews with the media. During that media session, the former Buckeye star had some interesting ideas for how his NFL career should play out, as well as what he wants teams to call him.
Ohio State football star Arvell Reese has interesting pro career ideas
First off, Reese wants to be known as Vell Reese moving forward, which is a little strange. Secondly, Reese mentioned that he will be working out at both linebacker and edge. He believes that he will be a better edge than he will be a linebacker, and that is where he wants to play in the NFL.
"The majority asked what I want to be, and then they showed me SAM linebackers and edges. I tell them outside linebacker or edge."
On the edge is where Reese made the biggest contributions in college with the Ohio State Buckeyes. He can use his speed and strength to get the quarterback on the ground, which is what he showed early during the 2025 season for the Buckeyes.
Reese is expected to be one of the top three picks in the draft. There's a chance that he ends up going number one overall because of his pass-rushing skills. He certainly was a very good player for Ohio State, but whether that's enough to put him at the top of the draft is unclear.
