Every year, the Ohio State football team produces elite wide receivers for the NFL. They are clearly the premier college football program at producing receivers. That is thanks to Brian Hartline and how he is able to identify and develop talent. Emeka Egbuka was one of those receivers.
Last season, Egbuka was able to show everyone what he can do when he is fully healthy. He tore up defenses as he was able to benefit from Jeremiah Smith getting so much attention later in the year. Egbuka was a first-round pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers just a couple of months ago.
Egbuka has just started working out with his teammates in Tampa, and they are already impressed with what he has been able to do. Coaches and players are raving about his knowledge of the game and the playbook in just the short amount of time he has been with the team.
Former Ohio State football player Emeka Egbuka impresses his new teammates
Baker Mayfield seemed particularly impressed with what he has been able to do, saying that he can play all three receiver positions because of his versatility. That's part of what the Ohio State Buckeyes loved so much about him. He has a versatile skill set that allows him to produce big numbers.
Egbuka is expecting to be a big part of the offense in his rookie season. Tampa needed a younger receiver with Mike Adams getting up there in age, and Chris Godwin seemingly hurt every year. Adding a player with Egbuka's skill set is exactly what their offense needs.
Ohio State is going to produce another first-round receiver next season once Carnell Tate is able to declare for the draft. Of course, Smith will be a top-three pick in a couple of seasons once he is eligible to enter the NFL Draft. Ohio State continues to churn out receivers in great numbers.
Egbuka joins Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Marvin Harrison Jr., and Jameson Williams as former Buckeye receivers to be drafted in the first round in recent years. The list will continue to grow.
