As the month of June begins, the Ohio State football program has a lot of momentum when it comes to recruiting. While they don't have a ton of commitments yet, they do have predictions laid out for some top recruits. That includes the number-one running back in the country.

Right now, the Buckeyes have just 13 commits to the 2027 recruiting class. That's low compared to some of the other top programs, but it's not time to panic by any stretch. Last weekend was just the first weekend of official visits, and things went well for them.

However, not everything is sunshine and rainbows for the Ohio State Buckeyes on the recruiting trail. They did lose a recruit that they had in their backyard. In fact, this recruit was all but sealed up until recently. Instead, they lost him to the defending national champions.

Four-star defensive end Reinaldo Perez has decided to commit to the Hoosiers. He had heavily considered Ohio State, but decided to play for Curt Cignetti. In fact, Perez is from Columbus. Ryan Day doesn't lose recruits from the city of Columbus very often.

Before fans get too angry about this, it's not a big loss. In fact, it might be a calculated one. After the Buckeyes hosted Marcus Fakatou last weekend, they might need to make room in their class for him. They already have DJ Jacobs committed on the edge, so they might not need another one.

Letting Perez go to a Big Ten rival does hurt, though. That's especially true when that foe is the defending national champs. Still, Ohio State has plenty of other defensive linemen they are trying to get. There is plenty of time left in the summer for the Buckeyes to flip Perez if they choose, as well.

Ohio State can close some commitments with official visits in the next few weekends

Ohio State has some busy weekends for the rest of the summer. This weekend, they have nine recruits coming into town. Two of them have already pledged to sign with the Buckeyes, though. There are no five-star recruits visiting this weekend, but there are still some good players visiting.

The month of June is filled with recruits coming to campus. That is when most of the official visits happen for the 2027 class, although they are likely going to add some more visits between now and the end of the month. With camp season about to start, that's when the Buckeyes get some in-depth looks at these recruits.

Ryan Day isn't panicking about losing this one recruit. He likes to keep the best recruits from the state of Ohio in Columbus. Day has a plan that he wants to stick to. It's one that has worked out well for him over the years, so fans should trust in how he wants to recruit high school prospects.

His class ranks at the end of the year have been impressive.
