The Ohio State football program has been working hard on the recruiting trail. Ohio State has had some momentum on the recruiting trail over the last couple of weeks. Although they haven't had any commitments coming from the two weekends of official visits yet, they have gotten some good news.
Of course, the goal for the Ohio State Buckeyes is to land commitments and sign a great recruiting class. Signing Day isn't for several more months, so they aren't going to be able to do anything definitive about this class yet. They also have some work left to do.
That's especially true in the secondary. The Buckeyes don't have any cornerback recruits in the 2027 recruiting class yet. They are hoping to land one this weekend. They better, because the Buckeyes just lost out on a four-star cornerback recruit to an old foe.
James Frankly steals four-star recruit Bryce Woods from Ohio State
Bryce Woods, a four-star recruit from Georgia, has decided to pick Virginia Tech over Ohio State. James Franklin moved from Penn State to Blacksburg and is putting together a solid class. Meanwhile, Ohio State has to figure out a way to get more cornerback recruits.
Woods was expected to make an official visit next weekend to Columbus. Now that he has picked the Hokies, it's unclear if that visit will still occur. It would be a bit surprising to see him make his way to campus just a week after pledging to Virginia Tech. That's part of why this hurts so much.
Woods was visiting Virginia Tech this weekend, so he clearly liked what Franklin was able to show him. The Buckeyes likely won't get a chance to flip him next weekend. Unfortunately for them, they haven't been able to get a prospect to do the same thing for them in the last couple of weeks.
Ryan Day is being patient with Ohio State's recruiting
Ryan Day has been very patient this cycle. The Buckeyes still have just 13 commits to this point for the 2027 class. They would rather play it slow now and have a bunch of commitments at the end of the class than have guys commit early, only to flip later in the year.
It's unclear when Ohio State will get its next commitment. Day is not panicking. He knows what he is looking for in a high school prospect, and he is only taking kids who fit that mold. There is a chance that Day decides to take a smaller class and beef things up in the Transfer Portal.
That would be a break in character for someone who has repeatedly said that building the roster through the high school ranks is the best way to do things. Still, he had a lot of portal players when the Buckeyes were national champs back in 2024, and IU had the same thing last year.
Fans don't need to worry about anything just yet, but adding Woods to the recruiting class would have been nice.
