The Ohio State football team has a lot of programs that hate them. They are perennially one of the best teams in the country, and everyone hates teams that are the best for long periods of time. That's why everyone hates the Yankees, Duke basketball. and the SEC.
Ohio State has a major rival in Michigan, as everyone knows. It is the best rivalry in sports, and a recent list from The Athletic agrees. They have The Game listed as the top rivalry in the sport. What's surprising is that they have one other game they play quite often.
Ohio State football program has two rivalries on the list of greatest rivalries in college football
Not only is The Game listed as the top rivalry, but Ohio State's rivalry with Penn State is also on the list. That game is listed eighth, which is quite high up for a team that Ohio State doesn't seem to particularly hate. The Nittany Lions are far more obsessed with the Ohio State Buckeyes than the other way around.
Still, these two have given fans some memorable games in the last ten or so years. The 2017 and 2018 games were instant classics. The 2016 contest remains the only time that James Franklin has been able to beat the Buckeyes.
It's still surprising to see that rivalry listed ahead of some other teams' main rivalries. Having that game listed ahead of the battle for Paul Bunyan's Axe is pretty surprising. The Wisconsin/Minnesota game is certainly a big deal in the Big Ten, and is a bigger deal to those two teams than the OSU/PSU game is.
The Ohio State/Penn State matchup has CFP implications almost every year, which makes it even more compelling of a rivalry. That's the main reason why it's so high on this list.
