For most of the past two decades, the SEC has been the dominant conference in college football. In a lot of ways, the Ohio State football program is what made it possible. Back in 2006, they had a chance to beat Florida in the national championship. They got blown out. The Buckeyes then lost again in the National Title Championship Game to LSU the following season.
Now, the Ohio State Buckeyes are one of the dominant programs in the country. The Big Ten has won the last three national championships, including Ohio State winning it all in 2024. In that run, the Buckeyes took down two SEC teams en route to that title.
It's clear that the Big Ten is the best conference in the country. Kirby Smart even said so. Yet, SEC fans around the country are reluctant to accept the truth. It's clear that the Big Ten is at the top of the college football world. Ohio State has a chance to end any chance of that changing.
The Ohio State football team can put the SEC in the dirt
For the third straight year, Ohio State will take on the Texas Longhorns. Ohio State won in the Cotton Bowl en route to winning its 2024 national title. In the season opener last year, the Buckeyes beat Texas 14-7. This season, they play each other in the second week of the year in Austin.
A win for the Buckeyes would end any hope the SEC has of taking back their crown as the top conference in the nation. Beating one of the SEC's best teams on the road would be a deathblow to any argument that would have the SEC over the Big Ten.
Ohio State has one of the toughest schedules in the country. This game in Austin is certainly one of the reasons why it is so hard. A win against Texas for a third straight year would mean that Ohio State owns the SEC. The rest of the conference doesn't seem afraid of the SEC, either.
