Ohio State football fans should still be worried about Legend Bey's injury

Despite what Ryan Day said, the Buckeyes should still be concerned with the true freshman's injury.

Ohio State had the dominant win that they were seeking against Kent State. It was a game that was not close at any point. However, the Buckeyes still have some concerns coming out of that game. One of those concerns is the running game, which still has not gotten on track.

Playing Legend Bey more snaps would likely help with that. Against the Golden Flashes, Bey only played one snap on offense. He carried the ball just once and failed to gain any yards. The reason for that is an injured ankle, which ruled him out for the rest of the game. Ryan Day says the injury isn't long-term, but fans should still be worried.

Why Ohio State fans should be worried about Legend Bey's injury

Bey suffered an ankle injury that is not deemed to be a long-term injury, according to Ryan Day. He thinks that Bey should be available next week against Illinois when the Illini come to Columbus for another Big Noon Kickoff game. That is good, although Bey has been unreliable.

Before the season even started, Bey was suspended from the team. He has yet to prove that he can truly be trusted by the coaching staff despite his dynamic speed and shiftiness. He is someone who can make a massive impact on the Buckeyes if he's able to pull himself together.

Through three games, the Ohio State Buckeyes still have to figure out a way to have explosive plays in the run game. Bey might be someone who can help them do that. Ohio State has yet to get the production that they seek from their starters, which is a big problem moving forward.

Bey was a nonfactor against Texas. Now, he did nothing against Kent State. He is a true freshman, so he still has a lot to learn about playing running back, which is a new position for him. Still, he has to be able to stay healthy if he is going to be an impactful player.

Legend Bey needs to prove he can be a realy running back for Ohio State

Bey has yet to prove that he must see the field. His explosiveness is undeniable, but he has made too many mistakes to force himself onto the field. Ryan Day rarely plays true freshmen on offense unless they prove that they can be trusted. Bey hasn't done that thus far.

Watching back on tape, Bey's injury didn't seem to be that bad. Day seems confident that he will be back next week. Even so, this injury gives yet another reason for him to be buried on the depth chart. Bo Jackson, Ja'Kobi Jackson, and Isaiah West continue to be ahead of him.

Arthur Smith has yet to really show that he can affect the running game in a measurable way compared to last season. That's disappointing, especially because he has worked with one of the all-time greats in Derrick Henry. Bey still has plenty of time to become an impact player, but he has to be healthy to do so.
