Ohio State football fans should be disappointed in college football for this weekend
By Ryan Stano
This weekend has a great slate of college football games. There are a bunch of ranked matchups, none bigger than the Ohio State football team taking on Oregon. #2 vs. #3 would normally be a massive deal. It would affect the entire College Football Playoff race.
While it still does, this game has less juice to it than it should. Had this game been last season, a loss could have crumbled one of these team's seasons. That's especially true if it had been Oregon. If they lose, they would have needed a lot of help to make the four-team CFP.
Instead, a loss here for either team doesn't really matter. Whoever loses will drop three or four spots in the polls and might even be able to afford themself another loss and still get into the Playoff. It's better for the teams, but it's worse for the fans who pour their blood, sweat, and tears into this sport.
The expanded CFP has ruined the Ohio State football vs. Oregon matchup
Throughout the week, we've seen many say that this is the biggest game in the history of Autzen Stadium. Had the Playoff still been at four teams, perhaps that might have been true. Unfortunately, the 12-team Playoff has taken away some of the juice from this game.
This is something that's going to keep happening. Games that should mean a lot more just simply don't. There are years when that will happen with The Game too. While that is a sacred rivalry that will always have juice, some of it will be sapped in years when both teams are great.
Saturday night is still going to be a lot of fun. I'm going to be jacked up watching this game. I just won't be as nervous as I would have been if this game had taken place a year ago.
