This was about as dominant a performance we've seen on defense from the Ohio State football team in quite some time. Entering the game, plenty of people, including Paul Finebaum, thought Arch Manning and Texas would have their way with the Buckeyes.

Nope, not at all. In pretty surprising fashion, the Ohio State offense couldn't get into any kind of a rhythm, but that didn't matter with Manning looking very much like a young man who was making his first start for Texas, and on the road.

Throughout the summer, people in Columbus have heard all about how Manning is the next big thing in the college game and that he's the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy this year. He looked nothing like a Heisman contender, with Ohio State humbling him in the best way possible during the Buckeyes' 14-7 win over No. 1 Texas at The Shoe.

Sark is getting roasted again for brutal play-calling vs. Ohio State

Ohio State totally silenced Arch Manning in the Week 1 Ohio State win over Texas

You've almost got to feel bad for Arch. The expectations were placed sky-high for him. People looked at him to be the savior in Austin. However, some questionable play-calling from Steve Sarkisian against Ohio State, again, haunted the Longhorns.

At the same time, Manning couldn't build any chemistry with his receivers from start to finish. The Texas offense looked beyond sluggish and Manning's terrible interception in the second half opened the door for Julian Sayin to find Carnell Tate for a sweet long touchdown.

You could tell just how disappointed Manning was with that throw, as it was one that he really wanted back. Not only that, but not longer after that pick, he got the ball back in his hands and he tossed yet another pick. Luckily for Manning and Texas, the call was overturned, but it was still a terrible toss on his part.

On the day, the third-year sophomore was just in a funk - that's the best way to put it. Whenever he let the ball rip, it just seemed like he was hesitant and he didn't have any confidence with his delivery. That's a testament to the pressure being provided up front, plus the Ohio State secondary being strong as usual. He did toss a 32-yard TD to Parker Livingstone with 3:28 left, but there was no late magic left in him.

Manning is loaded with talent and he'll surely bounce back from this. Still, let's go ahead and end all the Heisman and No. 1 overall pick in the draft chatter. Ohio State made him look like someone far from being in that conversation and it's got to be a pretty nice feeling for a lot of people. So many people doubted the Buckeyes leading up to Week 1, and those same people have nothing to say right now.
