Ohio State fans should love what Kenny Dillingham's Michigan snub really means

Ohio State is a tough culture to crack with how many traditions there are to uphold, but there's a long line of coaches who'd line up to be the Buckeyes' head coach. Those who have passed through the doors of the Woody Hayes Athletic Center over the past several decades have left with pride for the Scarlet and Gray. The same cannot be said about TTUN, especially after Kenny Dillingham revealed why he didn't ditch the ASU Sun Devils for the Wolverines.

Dillingham didn't want the stress that comes from the internal politics in Ann Arbor. He revealed that he wants to remain happy in Tempe.

"I don't care about being at a blue blood," Dillingham told Yahoo Sports. "I want to coach football and be happy. At the end of the day, some of the best coaches aren't the guys that everybody talks about. The media talks about the people who win championships. But sometimes the best coaches aren't those people.

"I think sometimes people can't see the forest through the trees, and I've got a great thing. Why would I mess it up?"

"Mess it up" to describe taking the head coaching job for TTUN. Brilliant. How could an Ohio State fan not love hearing that?

The Wolverines have ruined two college football coaching careers

We know that the Wolverines' last two head coaches, Jim Harbaugh and Sherrone Moore, will never be welcomed back. Both ended their tenures in disgrace, with Harbaugh being hit with 14 years of penalties related to recruiting violations that ban him from college football until 2038, and Moore having a scandal that is NSFW and too heavy to rehash right now.

Harbaugh is sitting comfortably in the NFL with the San Diego Chargers. It's possible the Chargers take a step forward in 2026. If Harbaugh was able to make J.J. McCarthy a championship QB, he should have plenty to work with in Justin Herbert.

Moore may have a tough road back to coaching. Someone will probably hire him, but definitely no one on the Wolverines' level.

Ohio State has had its issues and politics, but not as bad as TTUN

There's no pretending that it's all rainbows and sunshine in Columbus. There are obviously issues and politics that coaches deal with and create at The Ohio State University. Urban Meyer's issues were serious. Jim Tressel's were not so much.

There's no comparing scandals morally because it's no one's place to, but in measuring the impact of these scandals breaking containment, the Wolverines take the cake. TTUN has had to do more damage control, and more people have lost their jobs for being unable to contain the mess.

It's not hard to blame Dillingham for dodging that mess in the aftermath of a major scandal. Clearly, he believes Arizona State isn't much of a step down. Kyle Whittingham took the opportunity of a lifetime to finally leave Utah. At least, the opportunity of a lifetime was what the Wolverines were in his heyday.

Now, they're not even enough of a step up from the Sun Devils to poach their coach from the Big 12.
