As the Buckeyes get ready for the 2026 season, they are juggling two recruiting classes at the same time. They want to finish the 2027 class by adding some really strong recruits, but they are also looking at 2028 prospects. In fact, they already have a five-star recruit committed in that class.
With the Ohio State Buckeyes starting to turn the page a bit, one recruit they have their eyes on is the son of an Oregon legend. That recruit is three-star receiver Legarrette Blount Jr., who says that the Buckeyes are one of the programs that are standing out to him early in the process.

Blount Jr. explained to Rivals that the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Oregon Ducks are the two schools standing out to him early on. Of course, his father was a great running back for the Ducks in the late 2000s. He set a school record in 2008 when he ran for 17 touchdowns.

Of course, Blount is best known for the incident in 2009 when he punched a Boise State player in the face following a loss. He was suspended for the rest of the season by Chip Kelly, although he was reinstated later on. He eventually went undrafted, but had a successful NFL career.
Now, his son is trying to forge his own path in college football. Of course, he is hoping to avoid the mistakes his dad made. Cortez Hankton seems to be making a strong impression on him early. As of right now, he doesn't have an offer from Ryan Day and the coaching staff, though.
Perhaps Blount Jr. will perform well enough in his upcoming high school season to earn one. He already has one from Oregon, which is expected. Ohio State usually gets the best receivers in the country, so Blount Jr. will have to prove that he deserves a scholarship offer.
Ohio State will monitor the 2028 recruiting class more closely during the season
Once the regular season begins, the Buckeyes will start to monitor the 2028 recruiting class a little bit more. That will mean that the 2027 class is starting to come to a close. Several recruits in the 2028 class will be visiting campus for some big games that Ohio State will be playing at the Shoe.
At that time, there will be more clarity on when the Buckeyes want to offer Blount Jr. It seems likely that they will offer him, which means they must see that he has some huge potential. I don't love his ranking at the moment, but perhaps he can raise that ranking by playing well this year and in camps next summer.
It would be the second time in recent years that the Buckeyes have had a prominent son of a legend. Marvin Harrison Jr. ended up being one of the best receivers in school history during his three years with the Ohio State football program. Blount Jr. would have a lot to live up to.
