Ohio State continues to get through Fall camp as they prepare for the upcoming regular season. Ryan Day still needs to get some starters in place for many of the positions on the team. That includes the wide receiver position, which needs to replace Carnell Tate as one of the top two receivers.
Even with Tate gone, Jeremiah Smith is still the best receiver in the room. He is the best returning player in the country. Even with that being the case, they need at least one other receiver to step up. Freshman sensation Chris Henry Jr. could be one of them, and Ryan Day explained why his stock is rising.
Chris Henry Jr. could emerge as a big part of the offense this season
While speaking after the team's first scrimmage, Day praised Henry Jr. for how he has looked so far during practice.
"He's made a lot of plays. He doesn't look like a freshman anymore. I'm excited to see where this goes for him."
Day needs someone to step into a new role with Tate gone. Devin McCuin has been someone who has turned heads now that he has transferred to Ohio State. However, he is used more in the slot. Henry Jr. can be someone who is used on the outside because of his size.
Henry Jr. stands at 6'5, so he has plenty of size to help the Buckeyes. That's especially true in the red zone, which could help the Ohio State Buckeyes be the best offense in the country. They are expected to have one of the most explosive offenses in the country.
If Henry Jr. plays as well as Day thinks he is going to, he has a chance to be the next great Ohio State receiver. Playing that way as a freshman would really be a boost to an offense that still doesn't have its starting offensive line set. Day is telling you to buy stock now.
Ohio State has a chance to win it all if Chris Henry Jr. hits early
If Henry Jr. plays like the stud he was in high school, the Buckeyes have a real shot to win it all this year. Last season, Ohio State averaged 33.4 points per game last season. That was with Julian Sayin starting for the first time, so that number should only go up this year with a better offensive line.
The Buckeyes should lean more on their offense than their defense, despite the fact that Matt Patricia is back. Patricia was able to keep the defense at an elite level last year in his first year as the defensive coordinator. He should have his guys ready to go this year, even with less overall talent.
Sayin has been working on scrambling, and the offensive line has four returning starters. Smith is still on the outside. Add all of that together, along with Henry Jr. emerging, and the offense should be borderline unstoppable this year. That's a scary thought for the rest of the country.
