The 2025 Ohio State baseball team has made history. It’s a historic team. But for all the wrong reasons. Ohio State has set program records for overall losses in a season with 35 (so far) and Big Ten losses in a season with 23 (so far). Year one under the new coach, Justin Haire, has been especially awful.

Ohio State’s week was just another chapter in this season's prolonged stumble. The Buckeyes missed out on a game with the Ohio Bobcats due to the weather. They then traveled to the Windy City to play Northwestern. Game one was played at historic Wrigley Field, and it went as expected, given that Ohio State was 11-33 going into the game. Northwestern ended the game early with a 12-2 defeat for the Bucks.

The surprise of the week came on Saturday when Ohio State put together a win. The Buckeye bats clobbered four home runs en route to their 11-6 victory. Sadly, that was only the fourth Big Ten win for Ohio State in all of 2025 (I still don’t know how they took two of three from top-10 Oregon in March).

But like most small successes Ohio State has had this year, it was short-lived. Sunday, the Buckeyes were clobbered, just as they have been all year, with a 17-2 defeat. There are no upsides to being 12-35 and 4-23 in the Big Ten. It’s to the point now where most are just grateful that their four games this week (one against Butler, three against Illinois) are the last of this nightmare season.

It has been the worst start possible to this season. It doesn't look like the Buxkeye baseball team is going in the right direction with things right now, and they need to do everything possible to fix that.
