Last week got off to an inauspicious start for the Ohio State baseball team. Tuesday’s game against Central Michigan was canceled due to severe weather, and the team's Friday game against that team up north was postponed to a doubleheader for Saturday. That’s when things began to fall apart and sink to a new low for Ohio State. The Buckeyes played early on Saturday, hoping to get in two games and avoid the rainy weather. However, when it rains in the awful season of 2025, it pours.
The weather pushed the Friday game to Saturday, and then Saturday’s game to Sunday. But nothing could get the Bucks out of their own way. Ohio State got behind early. They were down 2-0 after the first three innings. That’s when the crap hit the fan. The Buckeyes gave up 16 runs in the fourth inning. Ohio State would trail 22-0 at one point before finally losing that debacle for the ages by a final score of 23-1.
Sunday’s doubleheader wasn’t much better. Ohio State got out to an early 3-0 lead after three innings in Game 1, but like they have done so many times this season, they did nothing the rest of the way. After the third inning, Ohio State was outscored 11-1. The nightcap wasn’t any better. The Buckeyes were squashed 13-3.
The nightmare season continues to get worse for the Ohio State baseball team
The Buckeyes are 11-33 overall and 3-21 in the Big Ten. Ohio State has three times as many overall losses as they do wins, and seven times more conference losses than it has wins. Ohio State’s 21 Big Ten losses are a program record. The 33 total losses are the second-worst all-time (the program record is 34). There’s no silver lining here.
This team has done nothing this year to make one optimistic about the future of the baseball program. They’ll be back at it this week, concluding this home stand (that they are 2-6 in) against another struggling Buckeye State team in the Ohio Bobcats. They’ll then travel to the Windy City for a weekend series with Northwestern.
