As it stands now, the Buckeyes will have a somewhat disappointing finish to the 2027 recruiting class. That class sits seventh in the country at the moment. However, Ryan Day and his staff have done a great job attacking the 2028 recruiting class early in that cycle.

Ohio State already has two five-star recruits in that class. They have Jameer Whyce as an edge rusher on the defensive side of the ball. Jett Harrison is a five-star receiver on the offensive side. Now, they have added the man who can throw the ball to him, as they have added five-star QB Christopher Vargas.

Ohio State lands blue-chip recruit Christopher Vargas at a great time

Vargas decided to commit to the Buckeyes very early in the cycle, but it's a great time for Ohio State to land one of its QBs of the future. Vargas stands at 6'4 and 195 pounds, so he is a great size to play the position. He is from the state of Massachusetts, near where Ryan Day grew up.

Adding Vargas to the class gives Ohio State three five-star recruits out of the four commits they have right now. It is shaping up to be a strong class early, but there is still plenty of time for players to flip. Ohio State will have to keep all of these guys locked in for almost two years.

Day's ability to develop quarterbacks into first-round picks most likely played a big part in Vargas' choice. Day has put Justin Fields and C.J. Stroud in the first round as a head coach. If Julian Sayin has a strong 2026 season, he could become the latest first-round pick to be coached by Day.

Of course, it helps to know that Vargas will have great receivers to throw to, as well. Having Harrison already committed in the class gives Vargas some confidence that he will have a good time finding open receivers. Chris Henry Jr. and Jamier Brown will still be around, too.

Ohio State scores a major victory as they get ready for the 2026 season

This is a nice victory for the Buckeyes to get as they prepare for the 2026 season. They are finally practicing as they prepare for a brutal schedule. The goal is to win a second national championship in three years, which would put them in dynasty territory.

Day has been known to be a great quarterback recruiter. It's good to see him continue his run while he's busy getting his team ready for a tough season. Vargas should help recruit other good players on the offensive side of the ball, as well. This is a solid start to the 2028 recruiting class.

As for the upcoming season, the Buckeyes feel good about their chances to win another title, and the coaches do too. They have voted Ohio State the top team in the country. In three weeks, they will have the opportunity to show the rest of the country why that ranking is correct.
