Ohio State football fans have bemoaned the fact that the team has so many noon kickoff games at home. That was underscored after the announcement that the season opener against Texas will be at noon on FOX. Big Noon Kickoff continues to take big home games for Ohio State.
Because these big games are at noon, the atmosphere of these games suffers. Fans of the Ohio State Buckeyes want to have more night games when these big opponents come to town. Instead, FOX takes as many of the big home Ohio State games as they can get their hands on.
While athletic director Ross Bjork has talked about getting involved to fix this issue, nothing has happened. One Ohio politician has gotten involved and introduced a bill that would ban noon home games for the Buckeyes or when any state university is involved, except for Michigan.
Ohio State fans could soon say goodbye to noon kickoffs under new bill
Tex Fischer has introduced this bill, according to On3. In his proposed bill, if Ohio State is playing another team in the top ten of the AP Poll, they also would have to play at 3:30 pm or later. If this bill is violated, the university that violates it would be subject to a $10 million fine.
There is no chance that this bill gets past or is actually approved. This is more of a performative stunt, similar to what a lawmaker did following the loss to TTUN. This is more of a politician who is trying to get his name out there and use the Buckeyes for some political clout.
Even so, this underscores the frustration that fans have with how many noon kicks the Buckeyes are subjected to. Fans would love to have fewer kicks at noon when they are playing a big game, especially at the Shoe.
Ohio State football fans better get used to it, because there will be at least one other big game that they will play at noon. It wouldn't be surprising to see them play Penn State at that time slot, as well.
