To the victors go the spoils, we suppose... While the Michigan Wolverines await the menacing No. 16-seeded Howard Bison, former Fab Five star Jalen Rose made it a point to rub Ohio State's nose in it after the Buckeyes' heartbreaking loss to the TCU Horned Frogs in their No. 8 vs. No. 9 first-round game in the East Region. What Rose had to say about Ohio State was so beyond disrespectful here.
On the Turner Sports analyst desk, Rose mocked Ohio State and their best player, Bruce Thornton.
"So I was hearing you talk about Bruce Thornton playing 100-plus games ... That's No. 1, why you don't pick Ohio State for basketball. And then No. 2, it's only right that they're the second best basketball program in their own state. So why don't we just call Miami, THE Miami University?"
Rose may be laughing now, but Michigan has never won a national title since before he played there...

Rose really went there when it came to two touchy subjects: Thorntong and Miami (OH). Thornton had appeared in well over 100 games at Ohio State before making the NCAA Tournament. Michigan may be a bitter rival, but you should not be mocking a beloved player's greatest team accomplishment, no matter how small it might look in comparison. Now is not the time of the year to be that overtly mean.
As for the Miami (OH) dig, we can celebrate the RedHawks without using them in an Ohio State joke...
Jalen Rose talks too much Ohio State trash for Michigan to ever back it up
Look. Rose may have been an iconic star for TTUN, but he will have as much impact on Michigan's run in the NCAA Tournament as any of us did watching Ohio State fall to TCU. Only one team can win a national title. Florida did it a season ago. Michigan has not won one since before the dawn of baggy shorts, black socks, and Chris Webber traveling before sadly dribbling out the clock with no time left.
The worst part in all of this is for as long as Michigan is in the NCAA Tournament, Wolverines fans everywhere are going to make Ohio State wear it. Had Jake Diebler even had a remote clue how to call a good play out of timeout, we might not be having this discussion. Instead, he put Thornton into a horrible, no-win situation with the game on the line. That is not coaching. It is complete malpractice.
So as March Madness carries on without the Buckeyes, now is the time for Buckeye Nation to collectively hate watch. While Michigan should have no problem with Howard on Thursday night, maybe the winner of No. 8 Georgia vs. No. 9 Saint Louis could ruffle their feathers in the Round of 32 on Saturday? Beyond that, maybe No. 4 Alabama or No. 5 Texas Tech can get them in the Sweet 16?
For now, Rose provided Diebler, his staff, and the rest of Ohio State bulletin-board material for 2027.
