Miami fans grasping at straws over Ohio State commit DJ Jacobs social media post

The Buckeye commit posted something on social media that has Miami fans thinking outlandish things.

The Ohio State football team started its 2027 recruiting class strong by landing DJ Jacobs. Jacobs is listed as the top edge prospect in the country and is a 5-star recruit. He committed to the Buckeyes back in December and has been locked in ever since. It was a massive win for Ryan Day and his staff.

Of course, fans of other programs immediately started thinking about flipping him. Miami fans have particularly tried to rationalize that the Ohio State Buckeyes are going to lose him. 5-star Miami cornerback recruit Donte Wright has been someone who has been trying to flip him to the Hurricanes.

Recently, Wright was working out with Jacobs. Jacobs posted a photo of him on his Instagram story, which sent Miami fans into a frenzy. However, those fans are clearly grasping at straws based on the caption that he put on the photo. They think he's about to flip.

Miami fans are trying to will DJ Jacobs into de-committing from Ohio State

The Buckeyes have kept hold of Jacobs so far this summer. Hurricanes fans are clearly still mad that Jeremiah Smith decided to head to Columbus instead of staying in South Florida. That is something that they still haven't gotten over, and the Buckeyes have greatly benefited from that.

Now, Miami fans think they can just flip anyone because they had one decent year. Yet, they still have no national championships in almost 40 years. The Ohio State Buckeyes have three in just the 25. The Buckeyes have a tradition that The U no longer has. They are just living in the glory days.

However, the Hurricanes did beat Ohio State in the College Football Playoff this past season. They do own those bragging rights, so they have to get some credit for winning that game. Still, that's not enough to get Jacobs to flip to Miami, especially when Larry Johnson is still in Columbus.

Ohio State will accumulate more defensive linemen before they lose any

In fact, there is a great chance that Ohio State will accumulate more defensive linemen in this class before they lose any. They are predicted to land Marcus Fakatou, who is another five-star recruit. That would give Ohio State two five-star recruits up front for the first time since 2021.

At this point, nothing can be ruled out when it comes to recruiting in the age of NIL. The Hurricanes could always decide to offer a ton of money at the last second in order to entice him. That doesn't mean that Jacobs would take such an offer, as he's more worried about developing talent for the NFL.

As of now, the Buckeyes have 13 commits for the 2027 class. That number is only going to get higher as the summer progresses. By the end of the month, it would be shocking if that number didn't grow by at least three or four. Ohio State has several official visits set over the course of the month that should net them some commitments.
