The Ohio State football program hasn't been able to land a blue-chip offensive line recruit in quite a while. Tyler Bowen is coming under fire for not only not landing a top-shelf recruit, but also not elevating the guys on the current roster. That continues to be the case this season.
Bowen could be on the hot seat if Ohio State fails to make the College Football Playoff. He's trying his best to stay on staff, but losing one of his best offensive linemen in the 2027 class would not help. Four-star recruit Caden Moss is now being contacted by Ole Miss to try to flip him.
Ole Miss is trying to flip four-star OL recruit Caden Moss
According to Chad Simmons of Rivals, Ole Miss is trying to flip the Buckeye recruit. They are not admitting defeat, despite the fact that Moss committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes in June. The Rebels sense some blood in the water, and now they are circling.
Bowen has been getting a lot of criticism in the last few weeks, especially in light of Julian Sayin getting hurt. He was only hurt because Phillip Daniels didn't block someone coming off the right side, allowing Sayin to get lit up. Now, he's likely done for the year, and Ohio State's title chances are on life support.
If the Buckeyes were to lose Moss, that could be the death knell for Bowen. He just hasn't improved any of the offensive linemen in the last two years. His recruiting hasn't been top-shelf, either. Those are literally his only two jobs. If he can't do those things, Ryan Day needs to look elsewhere.
Moss stands at 6'5 and 320 pounds. He is listed as the seventh-best tackle in the country in the 2027 recruiting class. He is one of five offensive linemen that Bowen is bringing in this class. However, Moss is one of the best players that Bowen would bring in if he sticks with the Bucks.
Ohio State making the CFP would keep recruits happy
The best way to keep these recruits happy with the Buckeyes is to win more games. Making the College Football Playoff would keep a lot of recruits pleased with what the future has to offer. However, Ohio State has its back up against the wall for the rest of the year.
Against Oregon, the Buckeyes are playing for their season. A win keeps them alive to make the CFP and possibly win a national title. If they can figure out how to help Luke Fahey more, they still have enough overall talent to win it all. Getting their best defensive player back should help, too.
As of now, Moss is still locked in with Ohio State. Until he says something different, the Buckeyes are operating as though they still have him. That doesn't mean that Bowen can't stop contacting Moss. He has to keep recruiting him until he actually puts his name on a piece of paper that says he's an Ohio State Buckeye.
