The Ohio State football program has a lot of games announced by Gus Johnson. Since FOX created the Big Noon Kickoff window, they have had the Buckeyes in that window as much as possible. Johnson is their lead college football announcer, so he usually does their games.
The Game is always a FOX broadcast. The Ohio State Buckeyes and Michigan get the top FOX broadcast every single year, meaning that Johnson is the announcer for all of those games. Unfortunately, Johnson has slipped in quality as an announcer in the last few years.
Johnson now mispronounces names, forgets the names of players, and doesn't call games with the same excitement as he once did. He is no longer the favorite announcer of a lot of college football fans, including mine. A recent interview he did shows why he should be pulled off that final broadcast for a whole other reason.
A recent Gus Johnson interview shows why he shouldn't do the Ohio State football vs. Michigan game any longer
Anyone who knows about Johnson knows that he is a Michigan guy. He usually does a pretty good job of hiding his bias during those calls, but a recent interview revealed that might be harder for him now than it was in the past with TTUN on a four-game winning streak in the rivalry.
During a recent Michigan event, Johnson was interviewed and was bragging about how much he loved calling Michigan games, especially during this win streak.
Gus Johnson did a pod at a Michigan event where he talked about how much he loves the program. How it was such a treat for him to call the games where Michigan beat Ohio State 4x, and it's the Golden Age of Michigan football. pic.twitter.com/hALQVUiHhk

"Now, it feels like this is a Renaissance. A golden age. Four straight wins...I had a chance to watch JJ McCarthy, a guy they said couldn't throw the deep ball, throw it down there, and he's a bad dude. Don making those big plays against Ohio State, in playoff games, championship games. It's just been a wonderful ride."
Johnson clearly has a rooting interest in those battles between the Ohio State football program and TTUN. If the quality of his overall broadcasting hadn't started to slip, this may not anger Buckeye fans as much as it does right now. But FOX probably should start looking for someone else for that top spot.
Johnson has been an excellent broadcaster for a long time, but his time as one of the best might be coming to an end. It might be time for someone else to get the privilege to call Ohio State football games.
