The Ohio State alum was overcome with emotion and understandably so.

You can't argue with the fact that Kirk Herbstreit is one of the most unbiased commentators in the broadcasting game. He never makes it obvious that he's a proud Ohio State football alum, though people all over Columbus are proud to call him one of their own.

On Monday night, Herbie was on the call for the Buckeyes going up against Notre Dame, a contest Ohio State won 34-23. As you might have been able to guess, the Ohio State players were overcome with emotion after the final whistle and the same could be said for Herbstreit. He was openly crying on the ESPN broadcast while discussing the historic win for the Buckeyes with Chris Fowler:

Kirk Herbstreit was overcome with emotion after Ohio State won the National Championship Game

"Oh, don't start with me, man. I'm a little emotional," Herbstreit told ESPN's Scott Van Pelt. "I'm just fired up for these guys. When I call these games, I'm incredibly objective - and I love all these Ohio State teams, but this team because of what they went through to get to this point, you're just happy."

Herbstreit was then seen wiping tears from his face while Fowler took over to discuss what had just happened. Plenty of people are blasting Herbstreit for his reaction to the Ohio State win, but can we blame the guy for being human?

Ask the average college football fan and they'd have no idea he used to play for Ohio State. That's how fair he is with his comments in the middle of the action. Is it his fault that Will Howard, Jeremiah Smith, Cody Simon and the rest of the OSU playmakers stepped up to seal the win for the Buckeyes?

Absolutely not. Ohio State is the best team in college football and the players are about to get fitted for some rings. People can be upset with Herbie all they want, but it doesn't take away from the fact that the Buckeyes are on top of the world right now.
