The biggest worry Ohio State fans have on their minds is now closer than ever to becoming a reality. While meeting with the media on Tuesday, head coach Ryan Day dropped a bit of a bombshell, stating that instead of Julian Sayin just being out for 'several weeks' as originally reported, that's no longer the case.
Instead, Day revealed that Sayin is now out indefinitely, but even worse, there's a 'plan being put in place' for the stud quarterback to miss both the rest of the regular season and the postseason as well. Should that happen, Ohio State's College Football Playoff title hopes would likely go up in flames. Yeah, this is not good:
Ohio State coach Ryan Day said that QB Julian Sayin is out indefinitely. There’s a plan being put in place for Sayin not being available for both the regular season and postseason. He said there’s no specific timeline on the recovery.

Ryan Day has swung the door wide open for Julian Sayin to be out for the season
In the fourth quarter of the thrilling win on the road against Indiana, Sayin was absolutely crushed while trying to get the ball downfield. You could tell he was in a ton of pain, leaving the field and eventually making his way back to the locker room.
Hearts dropped when Sayin returned to the sidelines, but with a sling on his right arm. Obviously, he wasn't able to return to the action, which resulted in true freshman quarterback Luke Fahey taking over the offense. With the greatest respect for Fahey, the youngster did not look ready for such a big moment, and Indiana nearly took advantage.
Instead, the Buckeyes were able to withstand some late drama to close things out with a 19-15 victory. However, we now know that victory has come at a major cost. Judging from what Day said with this latest update, it feels like it would be a bit of a surprise if we see Sayin in pads again in 2026.
However, nothing is set in stone there, and some tough decisions are going to be on the way. Still, the thought of the former 5-star prospect playing his last down for Ohio State this campaign is deflating, especially with Jeremiah Smith hoping to close out his career in Columbus with another natty. Without Sayin, that's going to be incredibly difficult to achieve.
Smith also said taking down Michigan for a second-straight year is on his wishlist for '26, but Sayin not being ready to rock to face TTUN would also be a major blow. The BYE has come at the right time for Ohio State, too, as Fahey will need all the time he can get with the 1s to build chemistry with his pass-catchers.
Might former 5-star signee Tavien St. Clair get some extra work in with the first-team group? That's unknown at this time, but what we do know is that Sayin is going to be out of action for quite some time. Major adversity has arrived for this team, and while no one wants to think about it, the Buckeyes may have to go battle without the standout for the rest of the year. Yeah, this stings beyond belief for Ohio State.
