The Ohio State football program has adopted a new strategy when it comes to recruiting offensive linemen. Instead of being selective with their scholarship offers, the Buckeyes have been letting them flow when it comes to the offensive line. Tyler Bowen has offered a couple dozen offensive linemen alone.
Bowen seems to want to take a lot of offensive linemen in this class that he can develop. Not a lot of them are at the top of their recruiting class, but he is determined to turn them into great players. After landing Aaron Thomas on Wednesday night, the Buckeyes have four offensive linemen for the 2026 class.
They have two four-star recruits and two three-star recruits on the offensive line. They don't have any five-star recruits, as of right now. Is this the right strategy for the Ohio State Buckeyes to use when it comes to adding talent up front? Or should they be more choosy with their scholarships?
Is the Ohio State football program using the right strategy when it comes to recruiting offensive linemen?
For the few numbers that the Buckeyes have on the offensive line, this strategy isn't a bad one to employ for this recruiting class because of the depth that they need to develop. This shouldn't be something that the Buckeyes employ long-term because of the lower-rated recruits they are landing.
Ohio State is going to need to adjust its strategy for the 2027 recruiting class, but Bowen must be under a directive to get as many offensive linemen in this draft as they can. Ryan Day must want to build as much depth as possible in the trenches, which isn't a bad thing.
Will this strategy work out? We won't know for a couple of years when some of these guys start to see the floor. They might not be done adding offensive linemen, either. There are still a couple of guys that the Buckeyes would love to add in this class.
