The transfer portal is already starting to be populated by players all across the country. The Ohio State football program has already seen a few players enter the portal. Two receivers and a linebacker have already decided to put their names in.

More Buckeyes will be putting their names in soon. When the portal opens on Monday, there will be a 30-day window for players to enter their names. That means that it will close by the time a national champion is crowned. That adds an interesting dynamic to the portal.

How many Ohio State Buckeyes will decide to enter the portal? Three have already entered. By the time the portal closes, there are going to be plenty more of them. That number would only go up if Ryan Day is fired after Ohio State's CFP run is officially over.

How many Ohio State football players could possibly enter the portal

Let's start with how many players could enter the portal if Day is not let go. That number will likely be close to a dozen. There are guys who haven't seen playing time that need to see greener pastures. Lincoln Kienholz will likely be one of those guys. Devin Brown could be another.

If Day does get fired, then the portal could be much more dangerous. There could be upwards of 30 or 40 guys who decide to put their names in. That's what happens when a head coach is fired. Of course, Ohio State would do their best to keep the best guys in Columbus.

In the end, the final number will matter based on what happens in the first round of the CFP. If Ohio State loses, that number is going to be high. If they don't, that number will hover around 10-12 players. Ryan Day ultimately controls what happens in that regard.
