The Ohio State football team didn't have as many players declare for the transfer portal after they won the national championship. They had a few players declare before the CFP run, and now some of them are starting to pick schools for next season.

Mitchell Melton decided to head to Virginia. George Fitzpatrick went to Kansas State. Calvin Simpson-Hunt committed to Baylor. Devin Brown officially signed with Cal, as well. All of those players found another P4 program to play for. One more player has also found a P4 program to head to.

Another Buckeye player who declared for the portal is backup tight end Patrick Gurd. Gurd has just two catches in his collegiate career. He got a decent amount of playing time this season because of his blocking, though. Gurd has decided to transfer to another school in the state of Ohio.

Former Ohio State football player Patrick Gurd transfers to Cincinnati

Gurd has decided to continue his college football career with Cincinnati. He is hoping to get more opportunities to catch passes while he plays with the Bearcats. He wasn't going to get that chance next season with the Ohio State Buckeyes, especially with Max Klare now on the roster.

Gurd is still a great blocker, so he will still be used a lot on run plays. Ohio State will miss him for that reason, but they can replace him. The Buckeyes can replace him, so it's not a huge loss. Gurd has a shot to be someone who can be more of an offensive playmaker.

The Ohio State football team has a few needs that they still have to address. That will be taken care of when the Spring transfer portal window opens. There will surely be more players who enter the transfer portal once the Spring rolls around.
