When former Ohio State football player Josh Simmons was drafted with the last pick in the first round by the Kansas City Chiefs, it was somewhat surprising. Not because Simmons isn't talented, but because he suffered a serious injury with the Buckeyes. Simmons missed half of the season with a severe knee injury.
Most NFL teams didn't believe that Simmons would be ready to go right away. They assumed that it would be a full year before he would be recovered enough to play. Simmons surprised everyone by being ready to go for Week 1. In fact, he has been the Chiefs' starting left tackle.
Simmons has been playing well, including having an incredible chase-down tackle after an interception. Yet, he has been missing from the team; his whereabouts have been unclear. He has been at home dealing with some sort of situation. Now, he is about to return to Kansas City.
Former Ohio State football player Josh Simmons will return to the Chiefs soon
According to a report from ESPN's Nate Taylor, Simmons will be returning to the team in a few weeks. He is not expected to be back with the team for Kansas City's Monday Night Football matchup with the Commanders. He has been away from the team since October 12th, after leaving right before kickoff of a game against the Lions.
Simmons has done a fantastic job protecting Patrick Mahomes' blindside. The Chiefs are a better team with him in the lineup, and he's still just a rookie. Andy Reid has been in constant contact with Simmons about the situation, and he has been fully supporting Simmons in dealing with this private matter.
Whatever the situation is with him and his family, the hope is that everything is okay and he will be able to focus on football here shortly. Ohio State football fans are certainly rooting for him and will be keeping tabs on his NFL career.
