The Ohio State football program won the first-ever College Football Playoff in 2014. They beat Oregon to win the national championship after dispatching Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. It was a great victory for the Buckeyes, and they got contributions from a wide variety of players in order to achieve it.
Donovan Munger was a member of that team. He played for the Ohio State Buckeyes from 2013 to 2015 as a backup defensive tackle. While he didn't play a lot, he still had some good moments for the Buckeyes. He was a former four-star recruit when he came to Columbus.
Munger played 11 games in 2014 and 12 games in 2015. The only stats he accumulated were in 2014 when he had five tackles during that national championship season. Unfortunately, Munger has passed away at the age of 30, according to an Instagram post from his mother.
Former Ohio State football player Donovan Munger dies at the age of 30
No cause of death was given in the post, so that is unclear at the moment. Munger passed away way too soon, at just the age of 30. Munger had to medically retire from football prior to the 2016 season due to blood clots. It was the same issue that forced him to redshirt as a freshman.
Munger becomes the second former Ohio State football player from the last decade to pass away in recent days. Ben Christman, who was about to start his final season of college football at UNLV, passed away from natural causes at the age of 21 just last week.
It's unfortunate that these former Buckeyes have been taken from us so soon. We send all of our condolences to Munger's family, and he will certainly be in our thoughts. When a cause of death is released, we will let you know.
