There are very few Ohio State football players who were better than Eddie George. He won the 1995 Heisman Trophy winner and held the record for most rush yards in a game for almost 30 years. He was one of the best running backs Ohio State has ever had, and that's saying something.
Following his time with the Ohio State Buckeyes, he had an illustrious NFL career. He was inducted into the Tennessee Titans' Ring of Honor and made the Pro Bowl four times. After he was done playing, he worked for FOX as an analyst. Once he was done with that he got into coaching.
George has now been a college football head coach for a few years. He was the coach for Tennessee State for four seasons, winning the OVC Coach of the Year while coaching for them. Now, he has been hired as the head coach of Bowling Green thanks to another former Buckeye and Falcon.
Former Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer recommended Eddie George be the head coach of BGSU
Urban Meyer coached at Bowling Green before coaching with the Buckeyes. He understands what it takes to be successful there. During George's introductory press conference, he noted that Meyer was influential in his getting the job, recommending him to the athletic director.
Derek van der Merwe got one name from Meyer on who he should hire, and it was George. George has proven to be a very good football mind. He should only get better now that he has increased resources. George might end up being with the Buckeyes again some day.
Right now, George is trying to be the best coach that he can be for the Falcons right now. He has given himself a chance to keep moving up the coaching ladder if he can have success in the MAC. He gives that school some brand recognition, which is something they didn't have before.
George has thrown himself into coaching with the same vigor he did when he was playing. That is why he will be successful with the Falcons. It wouldn't be surprising to see them in a bowl game next year.
