Now that he's getting ready to run the defense for James Franklin and Penn State, it looks like former Ohio State football defensive coordinator Jim Knowles is getting into a groove with his new team. However, it's quickly turning into unfortunate news for Ryan Day and the Buckeyes.
That's because with camp almost here, Knowles has wasted no time in sharing Ohio State intel with members of the Penn State coaching staff and players. Wait, what? Yup, while at Big Ten Media Days, quarterback Drew Allar revealed that he and Knowles went over game film from Ohio State taking down Penn State, with Knowles sharing exactly what the Buckeyes keyed in on. What else is he sharing?
Former Ohio State DC Jim Knowles is already making noise with Penn State
"I’ve actually been able to sit down with [Knowles] and a couple of guys that he brought over from Ohio State, and really sit back and watch the game from last year and just really understand their philosophy," Allar said via Victory Bell Rings. "Why they were calling certain things and maybe the tells that I had, we had as an offense."
It's not a shock that Knowles is meeting with Penn State players and going over things that need to change. What else did we expect? At the same time, Knowles bolted on the Buckeyes and the fact that he joined Penn State is something that still ticks people off.
Issues between him and Ohio State were building for a little while due to a contract dispute, but Franklin and Co. put a boatload of money on the table to poach him. Is Knowles now looking for some revenge against the Buckeyes once the campaign gets here?
That could be the case, but you better believe that the feeling is mutual. Knowles will be tasked in trying to slow down Julian Sayin, James Peoples, Jeremiah Smith and the other Ohio State playmakers. We don't have to tell you that won't be an easy task for the Penn State defense.
As for Allar, he'll hope to put on a show against Ohio State when these two teams face off and he'll surely have Knowles helping him out once again to take on the Buckeyes' stingy defense. Knowles has upset plenty of Ohio State fans this offseason, but the latest update only adds more anger to things. The Buckeyes will no question have extra motivation to take down Penn State once Nov. 1 gets here.
