When Thad Matta led the Ohio State basketball program, fans were excited to support the team. He had some really good teams and elevated the program to new heights. He made two Final Fours and played for a national championship in 2007. It was a run that had everyone on campus excited.
Since Matta left in 2017, the Buckeyes have been far less exciting. Chris Holtmann had a couple of good years, but things have taken a sharp dive since Matta left. The Ohio State Buckeyes haven't made the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament since 2012-2013.
Former Buckeye basketball player Mark Titus, who was a walk-on for Matta, called out Ohio State fans for being angry over the loss against TCU on Thursday. He got absolutely crushed by fans on social media after his take, even by fans who normally like Titus' content.
Ohio State basketball fans crush mark Titus for absurd take
While speaking on Mostly Hoops with Mark Titus & Co, Titus went in on Ohio State fans.
“Ohio State Basketball fans are the worst fans in the world. They're literally the worst, because they watch football all year, they don’t even pay attention to the basketball program, they parachute in around late January, early February. They look at the rankings, and if we're not in the top 10, they're like, 'Everything sucks. Fire everybody, this is terrible.' They have no idea what they're talking about."
Titus' take did not go over well with fans, and he was crushed on social media by Buckeye fans.
Can you blame us? Top 10 biggest school in the country, and you have Christoph Tilly as your big. Also Diebler was a very big risk, that hasn’t paid off, he’ll probably be good someday but OSU shouldn’t have been the first stop in his HC career, whatever happens with him and OSU

Yikes. Maybe it’s the programs responsibility to put out a product to draw in fans from the jump? What a sorry, entitled take. Fans aren’t obligated to support an uninspiring program.

Mark. I love ya but my expectations are extremely tethered. A lot of fans feel that way, too. And that’s the larger issue. We’ve been neutered into thinking the ceiling for this basketball program is to make the dance and maybe get to the second weekend if we’re lucky.

Ohio State basketball fans aren't asking for the Buckeyes to be Final Four contenders every single year like they were under Matta. That is an unrealistic expectation at this point. What they do expect, and they should, is that they make the NCAA Tournament every year and make a Sweet 16 every few years.
That is not the standard that the Buckeyes have set over the last few years. Jake Diebler was not the right hire to begin with, but he did finally bring them back to the NCAA Tournament. He has a five-star recruit coming in next season, so things are certainly looking up.
If Diebler doesn't make the NCAA Tournament next season, he should be fired. That's not some stupid take that only football watchers would make. Titus is dead wrong here, and perhaps he should watch what the basketball fans have been saying for the last eight years about the program.
