This is the first week of the year that fans of the Ohio State football team can just relax. The bye week brings forth no stress, and it allows the Buckeyes to heal up and get healthy for the stretch run. It also allows the coaching staff to get on the road and do some recruiting.

Five-star Ohio State receiver recruit Jamier Brown was on display on Friday night. Brown has been a long-time commit in the 2027 recruiting class. He will be on campus next year. Based on what he did on Friday night, the Buckeyes will have the next great receiver on the roster.

Ohio State five-star WR recruit Jamier Brown wins a wild game with huge catch

Brown, who now plays for Wayne High School, had himself a night. He caught a fourth-down screen pass that turned into a touchdown that ended up giving his school a 56-52 lead. His team was down 38-14 to Centerville at halftime, but Wayne would ultimately come back to win 63-60.

Brown caught two touchdown passes in the game and had a run on the final drive to ice the game. It seems that he was the best player on the field, as he is in most games he plays. He will be a good replacement for Jeremiah Smith next season, although no one can replace him.

With Smith gone next season, it will be up to Chris Henry Jr. and Brown as two elite players to lead the receiving corps. Moving forward, the Buckeyes should be getting Henry Jr. on the field more often this year. He has shown in recent weeks that he is ready for more snaps.

Brown has been committed to Ohio State since November of 2024, despite other programs trying to sway him to go elsewhere. It's pretty clear that he is locked in on the Buckeyes, and he will be playing for his home state school. That's what Brown has been looking forward to for two years now.

Ohio State remains great at recruiting receivers even after Brian Hartline's departure

When Brian Hartline left the team last offseason, fans were very worried about the potential fallout when it came to recruiting receivers. Instead of falling off, Cortez Hankton has done a good job of keeping things going. Hankton was able to hold on to Henry Jr., and he is clearly keeping Brown.

In the 2028 recruiting class, Hankton has already sealed a commitment from Jett Harrison. Hankton has done a good job of keeping the standard high at Ohio State when it comes to receiver play. The numbers Smith has put up so far this year should only help the recruiting efforts.

Ohio State is the best when it comes to developing receivers for the NFL. Every year, the Buckeyes have a first-round receiver. Next year, Smith will continue that streak. If Hankton continues to recruit the way he has been, there is no reason why this streak shouldn't continue for the next few years.
