One of the strangest recruiting sagas the Buckeyes had last season was with freshman running back Legend Bey. Bey was a high school quarterback, but Ryan Day saw him as more of a running back. Initially, Bey signed with Tennessee. Shortly after that, he was released from his commitment to sign with Ohio State.
Had his family not forced him to sign with the Volunteers, he would have signed with the Ohio State Buckeyes right away. During spring practice, Bey showed a lot of promise and talent during the portions of the spring when he was healthy. Now, Carlos Locklyn is revealing a plan for him.

Locklyn revealed that he has a plan for Bey to be on the field quite a bit as a freshman this season. In fact, he says that he has packages for both Bey and starter Bo Jackson to be on the field at the same time that he is pushing to implement. Locklyn is also excited about the physicality that the room has right now.

The Buckeyes will have plenty of time to figure out the right packages for their running backs once practice starts. With Arthur Smith as the new offensive coordinator, Ohio State is going to be running the ball more intently. He is known for having a physical way of running the ball, which he did in the NFL.
It's good to hear that the entire room has physicality to it. Bey was not known as a physical player coming out of high school, since he was a quarterback. Having his body change has certainly helped him in that regard. Locklyn liked what he saw enough in the spring to get him on the field right away.
Ohio State will have a few freshmen having big roles this year
Bey will certainly have a big role on the team, even if he isn't the starter. They are going to prepare him for a heavier role on the team next season, even though Jackson will be back. Perhaps the emergence of Bey would lessen the sting of losing David Gabriel Georges.
Chris Henry Jr. is another freshman who should have a big role on the offense. He could emerge as the second starting wide receiver on the outside this year. Jeremiah Smith needs someone opposite him who can actually take attention away from him. That would help him be even better.
Of the receivers on the roster not named Smith, Henry Jr. has the highest potential. He could be the next great Ohio State receiver. Of course, having Julian Sayin throw him the ball should help him become a big piece of the offense throughout the year.
Day has plenty of other older players on the roster who can help lead the team, but these freshmen will help them become the best version of the team that they can be. Ohio State is one of the favorites to win the title for a reason.
