Ex- Ohio State football transfer target dismissed from Tennessee before taking a snap

Ohio State dodged the biggest possible bullet by not landing this player in the Transfer Portal.

The Ohio State football program pursued several players on the defensive line in the Transfer Portal during the offseason. The Buckeyes ended up adding three impactful guys who should play a big role on the team this year. All of these guys will see significant snaps.

One player they pursued who they did not get is Chaz Coleman. Coleman is a Warren, Ohio, native and a former five-star recruit. Instead of picking them out of high school, Coleman ended up attending Penn State for a year. Then, he decided to transfer.

The Ohio State Buckeyes were seen as the favorite to land him, but he decided to head to Tennessee. It is a good thing that he did, because he has been nothing but trouble since heading to Knoxville. In fact, he is now left without a program to play for this season.

Former Ohio State target Chaz Coleman dismissed from Tennessee

According to On3, Coleman has been dismissed from the Volunteers. He has been medically disqualified and will not play for them this season. Based on everything that has happened, it's not surprising that the Volunteers will not be allowing him to play.

This is a stunning fall from grace for Coleman. He was expected to be an impact player right away for Jim Knowles, who is now at Tennessee. Instead, Coleman will not play college football this season in all likelihood. It's a good thing the Ohio State Buckeyes didn't bring him in.

This is the last thing they need, just a couple of months before the season starts. They did not need a distraction like this while they are gearing up for the season with a national championship-caliber roster. Coleman would've just sapped energy from the rest of the team, and that's not something they needed.

Ohio State was right not to pay Chaz Coleman an absurd amount of NIL money

For all of the criticism that the Buckeyes have gotten over their NIL tactics, they were right not to pay Coleman an insane amount of NIL money. Having him commit to the program before having all this happen would have been a painful way to lose millions of dollars.

Ryan Day continues to be strong when it comes to his Transfer Portal evaluations. The only one he's really whiffed on was Ethan Onianwa, and he still somehow got drafted. Other than that, his portal additions have been pretty spot on and have helped the team on the field.

Ohio State could make Tennessee fans' lives more miserable soon. If they land a commitment from David Gabriel Georges, Vols fans will be furious at Ohio State. It would just be one more win that the Buckeyes could stack on them, as they have been winning over them on and off the field.

As for Coleman, his future is extremely uncertain. He likely will have to play at the G6 level next season in order to rehabilitate his image and his value. It would be shocking to see him play really well for a great team next year.
