Even if the Ohio State band can't continue tradition, FOX did

"Hang On Sloopy" was getting played one way or another

FOX wasn't going to let "Hang on Sloopy" die.

Ross Bjork made Buckeyes fans very upset a few weeks ago when he decided to end the tradition of "The Best Damn Band in the Land" playing "Hang On Sloopy" at the end of the 3rd quarter. The Ohio State Marching Bandhas been doing this for as long as I can remember, so the thought of it ending certainly doesn't feel right.

And it didn't feel right for FOX either, so they played the song performed by The McCoys as bumper music during the quarter switch. "Hang On Sloopy" was a No. 1 hit in for The McCoys in 1965.

Was it music that made the magic happen?

I'm not going to say that a simple song can be the cause of a game-changing, but early in the fourth quarter, Justin Sayin and Carnell Tate hooked up for a long touchdown that gave the Buckeyes a 14-0 lead.

Hang on Sloopy indeed.

It's been an incredible defensive game with new coordinator Matt Patricia dialing things up in a multitude of ways to confuse Arch Manning, while Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian has been as erratic in his play-calling as we have come to expect.

The Buckeyes haven't been anything great on offense with less than 200 yards midway through the fourth quarter. But they haven't made any significant mistakes either, while the mighty Arch Manning has thrown a pick and the Longhorns' offense has been stifled twice in the red zone.
