The Ohio State Buckeyes finally got a win on the field against TTUN this past November, but the narrative is so far in their favor right now, popular cultural figures in the sport are clowning on the Wolverines for how their last head coach lost his job.
Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders clowned on Sherrone Moore for the scandalous manner in which he was fired from his top job in Ann Arbor this past December, saying, “You know what just happened to the brother at University of Michigan? Hey, hey. Not me. … I’m not gonna bring my ship down. No.”
As USA Today's Brent Schrotenboer wrote, Coach Prime actually mixed up Moore's circumstances, perhaps with Deshaun Watson's when discussing massage parlors. Sanders used Moore's name as a cautionary tale, though.
"Sanders didn’t mention the name of Moore, the former Michigan coach who was fired after allegedly having an 'inappropriate relationship' with a woman who worked for him. Moore never was accused of any improper conduct during massage sessions, unlike NFL quarterback Deshaun Watson," Schrotenboer prefaced before saying, "But Sanders’ comments are in keeping with his carefulness about his image and any choices he makes that might affect it."
TTUN should've never hired Sherrone Moore
That Sanders can even make that mistake shows the stain left on the Maize and Blue from the circumstances leading to Moore's exit. It was a serious and sad situation that hurt many people involved, and Moore himself isn't to be clowned on. Rather, praying for his recovery is the best thing for everyone to do, regardless of the colors you rep.
It's just that Moore should've never been elevated to the head coaching job to begin with. Now, those in "The Great Lakes State" are paying for that mistake, and the program may ultimately pay in the long-term for hiring Kyle Whittingham, who isn't going to be the Wolverines' head coach for long.
The Buckeyes are running a tighter ship on the gridiron and generally approach the game with more respect for sportsmanship, but it can't be stressed enough these days that things are rotten at the top with OSU moneyman Les Wexner.
No athletic department or school is perfect. But the two rivals of "The Game" are seriously compromised at the top.
