The Ohio State Buckeyes handled the Grambling State Tigers with ease on Saturday at the "Shoe," blowing out the SWAC opponent 70-0. In a game that dominant, it's nitpicking to notice anything that went wrong.
Practically nothing went wrong. Something almost went wrong, though.
As Cleveland.com's Stefan Krajisnik noted, Buckeyes tight end Max Klare went down with an injury, but it wasn't serious to keep him out of the game for long. Otherwise, Ohio State only got good injury news.
"A loss was never in the books for Ohio State as a 55-point favorite against Grambling State. The real worst-case scenario for the Buckeyes was an injury to an important player," Krajisnik wrote.
"That was avoided."
"The only scare belonged to tight end Max Klare, who limped off the field and seemed to favor his left leg during a first-half sequence. However, he returned to the game shortly after."
"Ohio State defensive end Kenyatta Jackson returned to action after suffering an injury in the second half of last week’s win. He started for the Buckeyes and wasn’t listed on the pregame availability report."
Julian Sayin makes history for Ohio State vs Grambling State
Buckeyes quarterback Julian Sayin made history to start the one-sided matchup. Sayin started the game 16/16 for 290 yards and four touchdowns, breaking the program record for consecutive completions to begin a game.
He got Jeremiah Smith involved, Carnell Tate looked like a 1A star, and running back Bo Jackson went for 109 yards and a touchdown on nine carries. Sayin looked exactly as a 5-star prospect should against an FCS defense: 306 yards and four touchdown passes. He did have an interception, but he game-managed a 70-point shutout. It's forgiven.
What's the Buckeyes' next game?
Next Saturday, Ohio State takes on the Ohio Bobcats, who defeated the West Virginia Mountaineers 17-10 at home in Week 2. The Bobcats lost to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 34-31 in Week 1 on the road.
