Cam Coleman's warning to Ohio State should serve as a wake-up call for Matt Patricia

Get your popcorn ready, as Ohio State and Texas are going to war this weekend. New Longhorns' receiver Cam Coleman isn't shying away in making things a bit more intriguing either.

While speaking to the media earlier this week, Coleman was asked what the Buckeyes can expect from him and the rest of the offense this weekend. He sure didn't hesitate with his response, and it's something defensive coordinator Matt Patricia can't ignore.

"That we're coming," a confident Coleman said. "We're coming."

Normally, this would be something Ohio State fans wouldn't be overly worried about, but remember at this time last year when Colin Simmons trolled Julian Sayin a bit leading up to the 2025 season-opener? Any kind of trash talk is going to serve as extra motivation for the locker room as a whole, and with Coleman essentially saying Texas will be ready to put on a show in this one, it's going to be on Patricia to slow that unit down, while also making Coleman regret his word choice a bit.

This was already going to be one of the best games of the season, but Coleman adding some fuel to the fire here is eye-opening. Normally fans aren't going to love it when an opposing player talks a big game like this, but for this blockbuster showdown, an exception can be made. And again, it's going to be on Patricia to make sure the Texas offense doesn't fire on all cylinders in Austin.

The offense is of course led by stud quarterback Arch Manning, Coleman, and Ryan Wingo, while running backs Hollywood Smothers and Raleek Brown are going to be forces with the ground game as well. Up front, Ohio State's defense is going to have to be a force, period.

In terms of the pass-rush, Patricia is going to be relying on Kenyatta Jackson Jr. to lead the way. Might freshman Khary Wilder be in for a strong showing too after an impressive debut in the shellacking of Ball State to open the new campaign?

It will also help Patricia and Co. that Alabama transfer Qua Russaw, who wasn't in action in the win over Ball State, should be making his OSU debut against the Longhorns. While Ryan Day hasn't been 100 percent committal that Russaw will be in action, things seem to be trending in that direction, which will make a big-time difference.

The more pressure the Buckeyes can put on Manning, the more difficult it's going to be for Coleman, Wingo and the other Texas pass-catchers to break free in time for Manning to find them. Patricia will look to draw up some calls to rattle Manning as a whole, which of course is going to be much easier said than done.

Regardless, it's on the veteran defensive coordinator to adjust the gameplan to not only limit Texas from posting big plays, but also make sure Coleman isn't given any reasons to do even more talking after the final whistle.
