The Ohio State football team has some of the best players in the country. That's why they are the top-ranked team in the first College Football Playoff rankings. The combination of a shutdown defense and an explosive offense is lethal, and not something other teams have at their disposal.

Caleb Downs is well aware of how good the team is. He's more impressed with what the offense has been able to do, especially the passing game. While Downs was speaking on his podcast with teammate Sonny Styles on Downs 2 Business, he gave some major praise to teammates Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate.

Tate has emerged as a surefire first-round pick in next year's NFL Draft. Smith is the best overall player in college football. Downs believes they are better than the duo of Ja'marr Chase and Justin Jefferson in college, calling them the best duo ever.

Downs left no doubt about how he feels about the wide receiver duo.

"You can low-key give the nod to Jeremiah and Carnell."

Downs is in practice trying to defend these guys every day, so he knows just how good they are. His statement might not be wrong, either. The two receivers have combined for 16 touchdowns so far this season, and they haven't even let the offense get to full capacity yet.

Once the Ohio State Buckeyes get passed the regular season, they will be more apt to let their offense play at a higher tempo. That will allow Smith and Tate to get even better stats. Right now, Ryan Day is slow-playing things so his team is fresh when it matters the most.

Downs is happy to gas up his teammates. This is the best team in the country, and both Smith and Tate deserve all of the accolades and attention they have been receiving so far.
