The Ohio State football team has been playing a different style of offense in the last couple of seasons. Prior to last year, they were playing a very high-tempo style of offense. With Ryan Day calling the plays, he wanted the Buckeyes to run as many plays as possible.
Last season with Chip Kelly running the offense, the Buckeyes huddled more during the regular season. They were preparing for a longer run in the College Football Playoff, which is what they did. Once the CFP started, the Ohio State Buckeyes started running more no-huddle.
This season, Ohio State is running just over 61 plays per game, which is the sixth-fewest in the country. Despite that, the Buckeyes can still put up a ton of points. A recent comment from Day could indicate that's going to change.
The Ohio State football team can still hit another offensive gear
While talking on his weekly radio show, Day had a quote that should scare the rest of the country. When asked about the lack of offensive plays they are running, Day mentioned that he is not worried about it.
“When it’s time to turn up the gas, we will."
That quote should terrify every other team that has to play the Buckeyes this season. Indiana should be frightened, since they have to play them in the Big Ten title game in all likelihood. Any opponent they see in the College Football Playoff should be scared, too.
TTUN should be the most scared of them all. Day wants to get that monkey off his back after having lost four straight games to them. He wants to make sure that he pounds the Wolverines, especially after the way the game ended last year with the flag-planting incident.
Ohio State ramping up to a new level offensively is what fans expected. Other teams just might not be ready for it or able to stop it.
