The Ohio State football program continuously brings in the best receivers in the country. Under Brian Hartline, they could pretty much pick and choose any receiver they wanted to offer. Hartline is now the head coach at South Florida, so Cortez Hankton is the new receivers coach.
So far, the results have been mixed with Hankton. He was able to hold on to Chris Henry Jr. on Signing Day, but it looks like the Buckeyes will miss out on a different five-star receiver in this class. It's also unclear if he will be able to land a commitment from the brother of a former Buckeye.
Marvin Harrison Jr. was one of the best receivers in the history of the Ohio State Buckeyes. He won the Biletnikoff Award in 2023 and was a two-time unanimous All-American. His brother will be a freshman in college in 2028, and he is now the top recruit in the country.
Brother of Ohio State great is now the top overall recruit in the country
Jett Harrison is a wide receiver in the class of 2028. He has received a lot of praise over the last few years. Despite not playing in college for a couple more years, the Buckeyes have already offered him. Now, he is rated as the top overall recruit in the 2028 recruiting class.
Harrison isn't overwhelmingly big, as he stands at just 6'1 and 175 pounds. His older brother is bigger, but he has more of his father's stature. Yet, his speed and his hands make up for not having elite size. He's certainly not small, so he still has a lot of tools to be an elite player.
If the Buckeyes still had Hartline, it would be a slam dunk for them to land Harrison. Marvin Harrison Jr. was a top-five pick and is one of the best talents Ohio State has ever had. With Hankton now coaching the receivers, Harrison likely wants to see what he does with that group before making a decision.
The Ohio State football team has time to make a positive impression on Jett Harrison
With Harrison still two classes away, Ohio State still has plenty of time to make a good impression on Harrison. Hankton will have the next couple of years to show that he can help develop Harrison into a first-round pick, just like his brother was. His work with Henry Jr. will be a big deal with that.
Harrison already holds offers from Ohio State, USC, Notre Dame, Oregon, and a litany of other schools. He will have his choice of programs to choose from once the time is right. With it still being two years before he has to make a choice, don't expect him to make a decision anytime soon.
The Buckeyes have another five-star recruit coming in for the 2027 season in Jamier Brown, so Hankton has that going for him. If he holds on to him, and Brown has already shut down his recruitment, that is a good sign for the future of recruiting at the receiver spot after the Hartline era.
