Big Ten program keeps Ohio State football from landing four-star DE recruit

The Ohio State football program continues to try to build up the 2027 recruiting class. They have slid a bit in the rankings, as they sit fourth in the recruiting rankings. This is despite the fact that they have been able to land the top recruit in the country, and he is the anchor of the class.

Still, the Buckeyes continue to try to land elite recruits at all different positions on the field. Even though DJ Jacobs is an elite edge guy, they want to pair him with someone. They were hoping to get Mekai Brown to be that player in this class that they could pair him with.

Heading into Friday morning, Brown was considering the Ohio State Buckeyes, USC, Ole Miss, and Notre Dame. He had been favored to land with USC for quite a while. Still, Ohio State was hoping to steal him. Unfortunately, that did not happen, and another Big Ten team locked in his commitment.

USC lands four-star edge recruit instead of Ohio State football

The Trojans were able to land the four-star recruit over Ohio State. USC has not been shy about the amount of money they have been spending to land recruits out of high school. It seems they are not concerned with their budget when it comes to high school recruiting.

Ohio State has a starkly different philosophy. They have refused to break the bank for high school recruits. Instead, they have spent a little more money in the Transfer Portal. That might change with another elite recruit in the 2027 class, but the Buckeyes have a rule they continue to follow.

Losing out on Brown was expected, but it is still disappointing. The Buckeyes still have a few recruits who will be visiting this weekend for the Spring Game. They are hoping to pick up some commitments from those guys, even if the Spring Game doesn't happen. This could be the kickstart to the 2027 class.
