There are few modern Ohio State football players more beloved by fans than Justin Fields. He advocated for the Ohio State Buckeyes and the rest of the Big Ten to play football in the 2020 season. He led the Buckeyes to the national championship game that season.

Fields' career hasn't gone as smoothly in the NFL. After being the 11th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Bears, he had three rough seasons in Chicago before being traded to the Steelers last season. He lost the starting job to Russell Wilson last year before signing with the Jets in the offseason.

Fields is expected to be the starter in New York, and it very well could be his last chance to start in the NFL. Unfortunately for him, he may have suffered a serious leg injury just a couple of days into training camp, threatening his chances to start before the season even begins.

Former Ohio State football player Justin Fields carted off the field with serious leg injury

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Fields was carted off the field with what looked like a serious leg injury.

There aren't any details about the injury at the moment of this publication, but anytime a player is carted to the locker room, it's not good. Fields has worked very hard to be the quarterback that the Jets trust to lead the team in the Fall as the starter, and this would be devastating if he can't.

Fields is perhaps the most athletic quarterback in the league, being the premier dual-threat. His legs have been a bigger threat than his arm in his NFL career, and he has worked very hard to become a better passer. The Jets are certainly holding their breath.

As soon as more details become available about the injury, we will let you know.

Update: The Jets have announced that he has a dislocated toe and is considered day-to-day. It's the best-case scenario for both New York and Fields.
