Emeka Egbuka may not have been the top wide receiver at Ohio State; that spot was taken by star freshman Jeremiah Smith. However, Egbuka was a consistent player who could be depended on to catch the ball at any point of the game, and that is exactly what his new teammates at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are learning.

Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield joined the famous Kelce brothers podcast, New Heights, recently, and in talking with the notorious brothers, Mayfield gave Egbuka some very high praise. The Bucs, like every other NFL team right now, are in the midst of training camp before the start of the 2025 season, and Mayfield is excited about getting his team healthy again, but he is also pumped about the new young talent on the team.

"Emeka Egbuka is an absolute stud," Mayfield said on New Heights. "He is the real deal."

In saying all of that, you could see and hear the excitement on Mayfield's face about the new young wide receiver. Former NFL center Jason Kelce asked Mayfield to further explain why Mayfield feels that way about the former Ohio State receiver, and the two key reasons are that he is smart and he knows how to go up and get a ball in the air.

"You know how you just can't teach guys leaving the ground to catch the ball, it's always grounded when he catches, there is YAC (yards after catch) potential out the wazoo there," Mayfield said. "He's just so damn smart and he's willing to block, willing to do everything we ask him to do, but I mean, we can plug and play him at any of the three receiver spots right now."

So what Egbuka is doing is showing he is a team player and is willing to do anything for his team, which was his best trait at Ohio State. In his final season with the Buckeyes, Egbuka finished with 1,011 receiving yards and 10 receiving touchdowns, averaging 12.5 yards per catch.

There are a lot of talented receivers in Tampa Bay, including Chris Godwin and Mike Evans, so the fact that Egbuka is getting a shoutout from Mayfield is absolutely huge and truly shows what the veteran quarterback thinks of the young stud.
