The Ohio State football program has owned the SEC over the last few years. In the last two years, the Buckeyes have taken down Texas. That is supposedly one of the best teams in the SEC, especially since the Longhorns won the conference in 2024. Yet, that didn't matter.
Also, during that 2024 season, the Ohio State Buckeyes crushed Tennessee. It simply doesn't seem that the SEC is any sort of issue for the Buckeyes. In fact, most of the Big Ten hasn't had a problem. The conference has won the last three national championships.
Kirby Smart admitted that the Big Ten is the better conference, based on what has happened over the last few years. However, one SEC coach is not trying to give credit to the Big Ten. In fact, he is spewing the same nonsense that SEC coaches have been using for years.
SEC coach claims Big Ten is easier confernce because of scheduling
Lane Kiffin has been the head coach of three different programs. He is now the coach of LSU after leaving Ole Miss. While appearing on Pardon My Take, the newest Tigers coach thinks that the Big Ten is only playing so well because of the fact that the top teams only play two or three tough teams.
"I think it's set up in a good way for the top-heavy teams right now. It's going to get better. We're going to nine games, and our bottom is harder than there's, and our bottom stadiums are harder than there's. We're going to beat each other up more, and they're going to sit and have two or three hard games a year. Their top teams and our top teams, when we go to the playoffs, they're (the Big Ten) in better shape. That stuff matters."
Kiffin is just parroting the same crap that SEC fans have been using for the last few years. It's easier to do that than to just admit that the Big Ten is a better conference. Ohio State would likely handle the Tigers this year, although that would only happen if they played in the College Football Playoff.
Ohio State keeps proving the Big Ten is superior to the SEC
The Buckeyes keep proving that they no longer have issues with SEC teams. They haven't lost to one since 2022, when they fell to Georgia in the Sugar Bowl, when Noah Ruggles missed a game-winning field goal as time expired. Since then, the Buckeyes have been hard to beat.
Lane Kiffin has never won a game that has mattered in the SEC. He hasn't won a College Football Playoff game, and he abandoned his team after they made it last year. It will be hard for LSU to make the CFP this year with the schedule they have.
Perhaps Kiffin should focus more on trying to win games with his current team. Perhaps then he might have a chance to beat the Big Ten in a CFP game. The Buckeyes would still likely be favored to beat the Tigers if they face off, though.
