Another former Ohio State receiver gets a massive contract extension

Ohio State is the premier program if you are a receiver who wants to make it to the NFL. Every year, they produce first-round talent. The latest player to do that was Carnell Tate, when he was taken fourth overall in April. Jeremiah Smith will continue that tradition next year, too.

Chris Olave is one of the receivers who were drafted in the first round in the last five years. He was taken by the New Orleans Saints 11th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft. Since then, he has proven to be their most explosive offensive player. Now, they want to keep him for the long haul.

Former Ohio State receiver signs monster contract extension with the Saints

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Olave has signed a four-year extension worth up to $132 million, with $90 million of it guaranteed. He becomes the latest Buckeye receiver to sign a massive extension, as Jaxon Smith-Njigba did earlier in the spring.

Those two aren't the only Buckeye receivers to have signed massive contract extensions recently, either. Both Terry McLaurin and Garrett Wilson also inked huge deals to stay with their respective clubs in the last couple of seasons. If you go to Ohio State as a receiver, you will get paid in the NFL.

Olave is coming off the best season of his career. He had 100 catches for 1,163 yards and nine touchdowns a year ago. Best of all, he only missed one game. He missed 9 games in 2024 after suffering several concussions that prompted some to call for him to retire.

Instead, Olave came back and was better than ever. It certainly helped Olave that he had a competent quarterback to throw to him for the first time in his career. Tyler Shough seems to be the quarterback of the future, and Olave is clearly his favorite target to throw to.

Ohio State receivers continue to be the NFL standard

Ohio State continues to set the standard when it comes to receiver play, not just in college football, but at the next level, as well. JSN is the best receiver in football, and he proved that last year by helping the Seahawks win the Super Bowl. Olave has turned out to be great, as well.

This will only further help Ryan Day and his staff recruit the best receivers in the country. Despite missing out on Monshun Sales, another huge contract like this will make it harder for five-star recruits to turn down playing for the Buckeyes. They know how to develop receivers into money-making machines.

Olave will always hold a special place in Ohio State fans' hearts. He was a Michigan killer, always playing well against TTUN. That started off in 2018 when he scored two touchdowns and blocked a punt. Now, he is doing his thing at the next level.

I'm really glad to see Olave continue his NFL career and not just play, but thrive. Now, he gets a humongous contract as a reward for all of his hard work.
