The Ohio State football program is done playing football this season after falling to Miami in the Cotton Bowl. Instead of being able to make a run at back-to-back national championships, the Buckeyes played the worst game possible against the Hurricanes.

On Friday, the Transfer Portal officially opened. Several Ohio State Buckeyes flooded the portal, looking for an opportunity for more playing time and better opportunities. The number of players who have entered the portal has reached double digits, many more than last season.

No player who has left for the portal has been a significant contributor so far. James Peoples is the only one who has gotten solid playing time in the last two seasons. However, with Peoples and Sam Dixon leaving, the Buckeyes need to get some depth at the running back spot.

The Ohio State football team needs to bring in a running back from the Transfer Portal

The Ohio State football program needs to bring in at least one veteran running back to help next season. With People and Dixon in the Transfer portal and CJ Donaldson out of eligibility, Ohio State will lose three running backs. While they have a couple of true freshmen coming in, a veteran presence is still necessary.

Ohio State is still trying to bring some players in for visits, but no commitments have happened yet. There are positions that Ohio State needs to address ahead of running back, including kicker, punter, and the defensive line. Those three spots are the biggest priorities.

Ryan Day understands that his team has some serious flaws after the embarrassing loss to the Hurricanes. Fixing those flaws is paramount to making the Buckeyes a true national contender again. Day has a big offseason ahead of him after losing the final two games of the season.

Ohio State fans deserve better than what they saw in the Cotton Bowl. Doing good work in the Transfer Portal is a good way to fix those problems quickly.
