The Ohio State football team has a long offseason ahead of it. After falling to the Miami Hurricanes in the Cotton Bowl, the Buckeyes will have to figure out a way to improve the roster. They have some pretty glaring flaws that they need to fix before next season.
This year, they had a massive issue with special teams. Jayden Fielding was a disaster as the kicker, and he missed two big kicks in the final two games of the season. Had he made those field goals, the Buckeyes would have won a Big Ten title and would perhaps still be alive in the College Football Playoff.
Fielding won't be part of the program anymore, and the Ohio State Buckeyes have had their other kicker head for the Transfer Portal. They have now turned to the high school ranks to try to fix this issue by offering one of the highest-ranked kickers in the 2026 recruiting class.
The Ohio State football team tries to fix kicker situation with a prayer
Ohio State has decided to offer Jacobo Echeverria, a kicker from St. Clair, Pennsylvania. He is one of the few players in the 2026 class who haven't committed during the Early Signing Period. Giving him an offer right now is kind of like them throwing a Hail Mary.
Entering this situation this late makes it unlikely that the Buckes are going to be able to bring him in. It would make sense for the Buckeyes to try to bring a kicker in from the Transfer Portal, as well. This program should never have an issue getting a reliable kicker.
Unfortunately, the last two seasons had Fielding as the starter. He was not very good, and he's one of the reasons why Ohio State is no longer playing. Bringing someone in is imperative to the program's continued success over the next few years.
