AD asks Ohio State football fans to stop having expectations

In an interview on Thursday morning, new Athletic Director Ross Bjork essentially told Ohio State football fans to stop expecting to win a national championship.

Before the season started, the Ohio State football team had high expectations. The narrative was that this season is a national championship-or-bust year. Where did that narrative come from? The team itself! Denzel Burke, Will Howard, and many other players said those were the expectations and they weren't shying away from them.

Ross Bjork has been Ohio State's athletic director for less than a year. He is succeeding Gene Smith and comes from Texas A&M, another program that had high expectations after hiring Jimbo Fisher. It seems that Bjork doesn't want fans of the Ohio State Buckeyes to have those sort of expectations.

Bjork talked in an interview on 97.1 the Fan on Thursday morning on the show Morning Juice. In the interview, a lot of topics were discussed about the football program. Ryan Day's job status was brought up and Bjork gave an infuriating answer regarding his future.

Ross Bjork says Ohio State football fans expectations are too high

The interview given was wide-ranging in topics regarding the football team. He was asked regardless of what happens in the CFP, what the odds were that Day would be on the sidelines in the opener against Texas. This is what he said in response.

""Absolutely. Coach Day and I have just hit it off so well. I've been really really impressed every time I talk to him. I learn something. He's innovative, he recruits at the highest level, he's got a great staff...This whole mentality about...look we live it, we sign up for it. But if you get fixated on the end result and not have the process fully baked every time, you're gonna lose. You're going to lose because you're only fixated on one thing. And so what we have to do is, this whole championship-or-bust sort of mentality...you want that as a goal, but it has to be about the process."

That's a lot of words about Day and the state of the program. The bottom line is that Bjork is telling you to expect less from this team. Don't demand the best every time you spend your hard-earned cash on going to the game. Winning it all doesn't matter!

I've been an advocate of firing Ryan Day for over a year now. It's clear the people in charge have no stomach for it despite the results continually showing that Ohio State can't win big games. For an athletic director to come out and say to not expect championships with the roster that was assembled this year is disgusting.

The Ohio State players said they were playing for a national title! All of the seniors came back to beat Michigan and win a national championship. They came into this season and said so. As a lifelong fan of the Buckeyes, I'm infuriated to hear that I shouldn't want my team to win it all.

It seems Bjork doesn't get it. Perhaps new President Ted Carter doesn't either since he hired this fool.
