We have reached the part of the summer where the Ohio State football program is starting to host some camps. This is the first camp that they are hosting this season, and several highly-touted recruits are attending. This gives the Buckeyes a great opportunity to look at future prospects.

Every summer, the Ohio State Buckeyes usually get a few commitments from recruits in the following year's class. That would be the class of 2028 this year. Of course, the Buckeyes are paying plenty of attention to members of the 2027 recruiting class, as well.

Still, Tuesday afternoon showed a lot of 2028 recruits in Columbus. That is where Ohio State coaches had the majority of their focus. Five-star defensive lineman Kellan Hall is in attendance, and he stole the show with his size and his skills in the drills that the coaches prepared for him.

The Buckeyes are trying their best to land Hall for the 2028 recruiting class. Hall is from Louisville and has almost every major program after him. Other than Ohio State, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Notre Dame, and many more have offered him scholarships.

This is the first time that Hall has been on campus, and he's there for a camp. It's the first time that he gets to see some of Ohio State's facilities. He also gets some coaching from those on Ohio State's coaching staff, which can help them develop a relationship with him.

Of course, he doesn't get to see everything that makes campus great. Ohio State still has to get Hall on campus for an official visit, which may not be for a while. With all of the competition that Ryan Day and his staff have for Hall, it might be tough to get him back for a visit.

Ohio State is more focused on the 2027 recruiting class

The Buckeyes are more focused on the 2027 recruiting class than they are the 2028 class at this moment. They still have only 13 commits in the class, which is a bit surprising. Ohio State didn't get any commitments from the first two weekends of official visits.

That's a pattern that cannot continue for the Buckeyes if they want to have a successful group of recruits. Adding some great players in the next month is something they expect to do, but Day usually has more commits at this point in the recruiting cycle.

Signing Day isn't for another several months, so it's not time for Ohio State fans to panic yet. The Buckeyes have a lot of time to make this a top-five class. These camps should help them do that, because they will get a closer look at some of the recruits they are pursuing.

Hall might have been the star of the show on the first day of this camp, but there are some Ohio State commits who are in attendance, as well. The Buckeyes are going to be busy this week.
